The party season is upon us, and I am sure many of us are aching to get together this Christmas. Whether it’s a corporate party or a celebration with friends, we want to feel festive and appropriately dressed.

With this article I will be sharing a few of my favourite party outfit ideas for you this season, based on the party you are heading to!

Colour Trends to inspire you for your winter party

Looking at some of the colours from the Autumn/Winter 2022 catwalks, there are some beautiful colours to inspire us for our party outfits.

The bright colour trends of Autumn included zesty lime, lilac, burnt orange and cobalt blue, which are wonderfully bright and enticing colours for this season.

A few deeper colours could be chosen for the evening which include burgundy, emerald, or brown which can feel more approachable versus the brighter colours, if the event is more professional.

Outfit ideas for the work party

When it comes to the office work party, you want to remain professional, yet bring in the festive feeling. Depending on the venue, you can dress up a little more formally, should the dress code require it. The first tip for dressing for any event, in particular work events, is checking out the venue and if there is a dress code.

You can’t go wrong with a dress at these parties. I do tend to recommend a longer hemline, from midi to maxi length can be the best option. However, if you do work in a younger more laid-back profession, you could opt for a shorter hemline, keeping yourself warmer with a bolero, or blazer.

A velvet wrap dress can be a good choice, this fabric is much warmer than others, and can feel quite luxurious too. With the wrap shape, this can work well on most body shapes as it pulls you in at the waist. Pop on a layered necklace for that little bit of sparkle, and a pair of heels for the finishing touch.

Another option, if you prefer to cover your legs, is a velvet jumpsuit, with a defined waist. Jumpsuits can be a little more tricky to wear as our heights are so different, so make sure to find one that feels comfortable and stops in the right areas for the best waist definition. A pair of strappy heels, long earrings and a clutch will finish the outfit with a little sparkle for your party.

If you prefer a two piece, then a satin midi skirt paired with a roll neck or a mesh top with a fun sleeve can be an approachable 2 piece look. However, you could go all out and swap the skirt for a pair of sequinned trousers, or even a sequinned suit with your roll neck underneath!

The great thing about sequins is that they can sparkle in the party lights, and when in a more professional shape such as wide leg trousers, they can be a little less garish.

Festive looks for your party with friends

A party with friends means that you could be a little more risqué with your look. A shorter hemline, more sparkles, and a little more personality can shine through.

One option that is a great start to a fun, festive night with your friends is a sequinned dress that has all of the party in the back! With a longer hemline you can play with the backless option, adding a bit of sexiness to the look. Thanks to the high neckline I wouldn’t recommend a necklace, instead, put your hair up and wear a pair of hoops or longer earrings. Pair with some comfortable block heels if you’re going partying into the night, and you’re all set.

For some fun, edgy inspiration, why not try a sequin covered top with an almost fringe-like quality? Pair with your favourite leather trousers, or even a pair of gold foil trousers to keep that sparkle throughout the entire outfit! Pop on a pair of heeled square toed boots which are all the rage right now, and party the night away. If you choose an all-black look, you could add a pop of colour with the shoes, such as a pair of pink heels, or even pink heeled boots!

So, will you be heading to a party this Christmas? I hope some of these ideas have inspired you to get an outfit together that you’ll love to party in, no matter the occasion.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: TOP 3 WINTER HATS AND HOW TO STYLE THEM

If you want to try out wearing a hat this season, then you’re in luck! In this article I will be sharing my top 3 stylish hats to add to your wardrobe, and how you can style them for Winter.

When you see someone wearing a hat do you think "I wish I could do that"? I know a lot of my clients feel like the styles of hats available can be either the perfect fit for their style or, more often, can be out of reach for them to try!

Autumn and Winter are a great time to try adding this great accessory to your outfit, as the weather asks for an additional option to keep us warm and dry.

If you want to try out wearing a hat this season, then you’re in luck! In this article I will be sharing my top 3 stylish hats to add to your wardrobe, and how you can style them for Winter.

Beret

The classic French girl hat (created in 1889 for the Mountain Infantry!), and one that works beautifully any time of year, really! The beret is a round hat with a flat crown, with a bulb-like form when you wear it.

This hat can be worn dressed down, in a classic Parisian style, with a trench coat, jeans and a striped long-sleeved jumper, or why not change it up and wear it with a leather jacket and midi dress.

This style of hat can also work with many types of hair styling. Whether you have a low pony tail or bun; a cropped or bob-style, or a beachy waved long hair look. The beret can work beautifully for your outfit, particularly if you perhaps fall into the Classic, Dramatic, or Creative style personalities.

As it is available in so many colours and styles, you really can find a beret to suit your personality and colours. A simple cashmere beret in light blue or berry; or even an animal print beret to add a real eye-catching piece!

Fedora

The fedora feels like the coolest of the cool hat options. With a wide rim, well-known shape, and coming in a selection of fabrics and styles, you can upgrade your look with a fedora.

The caveats here are that a fedora can work for most face shapes, but you need to consider the rim and the height of the crown. The fedora is, in fact, a great hat if you have an oblong face.

For heart-shaped faces, look for smaller brims so you can complement your jawline.

Some of my favourite ways to make an outfit with a fedora as your accessory is by going full-on rock chick! A leather coat over a pair or black jeans (or a mini skirt and tights) with your combat boots, layered necklaces, and rings, topped off with your favourite belt.

If this is out of your personal style, then why not go romantic or bohemian? A floaty midi dress, with a brown or tan fedora, with knee high suede boots, and cross over body bag.

Baker boy

If you want to work the androgenous look and mix that with an almost vintage feel, then the baker boy hat is a perfect option for you.

With its small brim, and puffed out crown, this hat is best for those with an angular face such as a heart or square.

These hats work beautifully with neutral suiting with a classic navy or black option and your hair down.

You could also style this hat with a thick roll neck knitted jumper tucked into a midi skirt with tights and knee high leather boots, with a belt to pull you in at the waist.

You can also add a little extra edge with a leather or even a velvet version, while this may not be best for the rain.

With these three hat options for your outfits, I hope I’ve inspired you to try out one of them if not all three! If you want to add new accessories or styling to your wardrobe, I specialise in helping people like you find their personal style and how to reflect this in their wardrobes. When it comes to showing off our personality one of the best and quickest ways we can do this is through our style. But what do we do if we are in a style rut?

For many of us, our style may change throughout the years but our core style personalities will tend to stay the same. This is because it reflects who we are as people! So, how can you discover your style personality and what can you do with fashion once you know yours?

First, we need to know the different style personalities we have!

As a personal stylist, I want to make it as easy for my clients to quickly navigate the different fashion stylings out there. With this in mind, there are generally 5 main style personality types that we tend to tap into.

Natural Style Personality

What is a Natural Style Personality?

Natural style personalities tend to want to feel comfortable in their clothes. This is the most important factor to choosing what to wear. Casual styles are their go-to option, think simplicity, comfort, and minimal patterns. Just like with a natural make-up look, natural style personalities like to keep it simple!

If you feel like comfortable, monochromatic looks are the perfect way to describe your happy place when it comes to fashion then you may fall into this style.

How to style your natural style personality

If you are a natural style personality, then you will want to look for simple lines within your outfits. Find fabrics that are easy to care for that don’t need special treatment such as dry cleaning or even ironing if possible! You want to make your outfits feel as comfortable as possible. A neutral, simple, easy to put on midi dress for the summer is a great option. Pair with simple sandals and a backpack and you’re ready to go out.

For a more casual look, you could find your favourite pair of straight leg jeans in a denim-lycra mix for a more comfortable fit, and pair with a simple white tee or camisole. Add a pair of boots, and a leather cross over bag in a neutral brown or beige for your essentials!

If you want to feel ready for the office, find a pair of neutral beige or white trousers that are lightly cropped, add a leather belt, and a pair of slip on brogues or trainers. For the top half, either a classic striped tee (which is the best pattern for you to dip your toe into) or loose blouse tucked in, with an oversized neutral blazer or denim jacket to finish the look.

Classic Style Personality

What is a Classic Style Personality?

Classic Style Personalities tend to feel their best in a more formal outfit. They like to appear well turned out, with elegance as a key factor for their outfit choices. Classic hairstyles that rarely change throughout their lives, and the same goes for their outfits. Once they have found a comfortable, classic, go-to look, they will feel a little intimidated to perhaps veer away from this.

This isn’t to say they will keep away from colours. Tones like peaches, pinks, navys and deep browns are perfect!

How to style your classic style personality

If you feel you’re a classic style personality, then looking for fabrics like silks, linens, and wools will be a good start. You will want to make sure your outfits have a feel of elegance and perhaps professionalism with each look. While stilettos can be a go-to shoe for you, if you prefer less of a heel, court shoes or even high quality platform trainers could be an option.

Some outfit inspiration could be a pussy-bow blouse in white or cream, tucked into a pair of tailored trousers in a peach or salmon colour. Put on a pair of nude pumps or elevate the look with a pair of nude stilettos.

For a more relaxed event, keep your tailored trousers and swap out the blouse for a cashmere polo neck, or high quality silk camisole. If you prefer a skirt, swap the trousers for a midi skirt in silk or with pleats. A clutch or handbag in a neutral tone, paired with your slip on sandals can help finish the look.

Romantic Style Personality

What is a Romantic Style Personality?

A Romantic Style Personality loves dressing up. Think little details like bows, ruffles, flounces, appliques and fringes. Prints and colours are also a go-to for them. They bring this feeling of dressing up to their makeup and skin care, and will even have a favourite fragrance. They tend to spend time on their look, and will never leave the house without their make-up done!

How to style your romantic style personality

If you think you are a romantic style personality, you’ll want to find looks that help you show off your passion for dressing up! A maxi dress with colourful florals, a ruffled neckline or pleated skirt will be a great look for you. Add a bold shoe, and a handbag to finish the look which has a similar tone to your shoes to make the look feel complete.

If you prefer two pieces, look for a colourful, patterned midi-skirt in perhaps an animal print or a floral pattern. A graphic tee, with a fringed crossover body bag will make the look feel just perfect for you. A red lip that works with your colour tone, also wouldn’t go amiss.

Dramatic Style Personality

What is a Dramatic Style Personality?

Dramatic Style Personalities often buy their items on impulse. This is because they are attracted to the garment, it stands out, or makes a statement. Bright, bold colours, and graphic prints that are on trend are their go-to. A wardrobe is filled with current pieces that have volume, personality, and boldness at their core.

How to style your dramatic style personality

With a dramatic style personality, you can go all out with your boldness. Scour the fashion catwalks for inspiration, and depending on your budget, you can invest in pieces that will make a statement.

While your outfits may change with the trends, current options that may feel great for you, would be a voluminous sheer maxi dress with ruffles at the bottom and statement shoulder pads. Underneath, add a body suit in a neutral or black, and make your look a bold monochromatic look by matching your bag, shoes, and accessories with the bold colours you select. Think orange, yellow, or lime green – all of which are very much in fashion right now.

For a two piece outfit, invest in a patterned pair of flared jeans, colourful heeled boots, quirky graphic tee, and if you need it, a blazer with statement shoulders for added drama.

As the name goes – it’s all about the drama for you – so enjoy those quirky finds and colourful, unique patterns & pieces.

Creative Style Personality

What is a Creative Style Personality?

The last personality that most people fall into, is the Creative Style personality. Creatives have wardrobes full of items from different sources, including vintage mixed with high street, online, and high end purchases. They love to collect and curate their wardrobes, and love to shop. They feel that shopping is an art form, and often are found studying fashion magazines or Instagram for inspiration.

How to style your creative style personality

If you feel like you may be a creative, you’ll want to hit different sources for your wardrobe. As I mentioned, you love combining vintage, high street, high end, and online fashion, so embrace that joy and create looks you love from across these outlets. Mixing fabrics can also be a great way to get your creative fix, such as velvet, satin, silk, wool, and denim.

For some outfit inspiration, why not try a pair of 70’s flares with a modern oversized blazer, atop a graphic tee, with a high end designer bag. You could also pair a vintage band tee with a silk midi-skirt, leather biker jacket, and biker boots. Add colour and creativity with quirky sunglasses, beads, and earrings for the finishing touch.

So, which personality do you feel you fit into? Have these outfit ideas inspired you to play with your wardrobe and style more?

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: TOP COLOUR TRENDS FOR AUTUMN 2022 (and how to style them)

As the seasons change, the catwalks and shops will show off the latest trends. From colours to shapes & styles, you may want to invest in a few current pieces to update your wardrobe.

What are the top colours to add to your wardrobe for your season and how can you style them?

Here are my favourite colours for Autumn 2022, and how you can make them work in your wardrobe, so you can invest wisely!

Zesty Lime – perfect for Springs

A bright and fun colour to add to your wardrobe that works perfectly for springs this season. Plus, it will add a dash of brightness to any look.

It can feel like a daunting colour, due to its brightness, but when you use it appropriately, it can truly make you shine!

I love that such a bright colour is coming into fashion for an often darker season, so using it to brighten your wardrobe as you add more layers, and welcome darker mornings and evenings, can bring a spring to your step!

How to try lime green this Autumn

If you want to add a dash of lime green to your outfits, you can do this with your accessories such as your handbag or even your shoes. These accessories can last a long time, so investing in the pieces you want to wear throughout the years to come will mean you can play up your outfits no matter the season.

Another option, particularly for Autumn as it gets colder, is with your layers. A unique cashmere jumper, or even a blazer can be a good option for the colder days, and in lime green you’re sure to make a statement and a big smile to your face.

Lilac – perfect for Summers

Lilac is a strong contender for my favourite colour for Autumn 2022. This almost pastel colour is a feminine and easy starting colour to add to your wardrobe as it's not too obtrusive. As it is quite feminine, it may feel like a tricky colour if you are a more abstract or edgy dresser, but you can make it work for you, if you use the right materials like leather or strong cable knits.

How to wear lilac this autumn

To fully embrace the femininity of this colour, you can look at investing in a lilac silk midi skirt (pair with tights and knee high boots for this time of year to remain warm, and it will last all the way to the summer as you change up your accessories and shoes!). You could also invest in frilled, long-sleeved blouse in lilac to pair with wide-legged trousers, or even with your lilac skirt for a monochromatic look.

For a more edgy look, why not try a lilac leather jacket and pair with combat boots, or invest in a leather trench coat in this on-trend colour.

 Burnt orange – for Autumns

Burnt orange is a truly Autumnal colour, and I love it! It can be a rich addition to your wardrobe no matter the time of year, but during this season it can be reflective of the gorgeous changing leaves around us. I'm delighted it's hitting the catwalks for 2022/23.

Whether it’s in your eyeshadow, or in your clothes, this rich colour is an elegant colour that can work from day to night.

How to style your burnt orange colours this Autumn

As it is such a warm, rich, and intense colour, you may want to go all out and wear it as your entire outfit such as with your dress paired with gold jewellery and deep rich accessories. If this feels like too much, dip your toes into the burnt orange colour trend with your heels – such as these almost metallic heels, or these burnt orange ankle boots.

You can also never go wrong with a handbag, so why not simply change up your outfits and add this on-trend colour to your looks through an elegant, burnt orange handbag?

Cobalt blue – for winters

For a cooler tone that works on your skin, while remaining bright and colourful for the seasons to change, cobalt blue is the perfect pick for Winters this season.

Cobalt blue should be a go-to colour in your wardrobe as a winter, so I was excited to see this colour across all of the Autumn/Winter 2022 fashion shoes.

How to wear cobalt blue this Autumn

You can bring this beautiful, bright yet deep blue into your wardrobe in a unique way with a suit! Perfect for those of you who prefer a more androgenous look, that can pair with different blouses, and be changed up based on the top or bottom.

For a warm and easy to throw on option, this long-sleeved mock-turtleneck belted jumper can be worn at any time of day. While these slide-on heels with a black heel have a dash of cobalt blue that can just add this pop of on-trend colour to your outfit.

These are just four of my favourites, on-trend colours for Autumn 2022, and I hope you’re feeling inspired to try out these colours in your wardrobe too!

If you'd love someone by your side to help you find the perfect colours, new trends, and outfits to suit your personality, body shape, and colouring, please get in touch.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: AUTUMN OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR 2022

Autumn is here and what comes with it new outfit options! My clients can find this time of year difficult to dress for as it’s not cold enough for a full winter outfit, whereas the summer clothes feel too light. Whether it’s layering or picking the right shoes for the weather and how to style them, I share my top tips for autumn outfits just for you.

Top colours for Autumn 2022

Autumn 2022 has a great selection of colours to choose from, but which ones work best for you? As you may know, I help people discover their best colours by using the seasonal colour analysis. You can find out more about how to know yours, here. These are my picks for each of the seasons:

Spring: Zesty lime - a bright and fun colour to add to your wardrobe.

Summer: Lilac is a strong contender for my favourite colour for Autumn 2022.

Autumn: Burnt orange is a truly Autumnal colour and can be a rich addition to your wardrobe.

Winter: Pink & cobalt blue for a cooler tone that works on your skin, while remaining bright and colourful for the seasons to change.

How to wear your Autumn trending colours

There are plenty of different ways to add colour to your outfit, from a little touch to an all out full monochrome look.

A perfect start can be a woolly hat, a leather jacket, or a pair of shoes.

The next step can be a pair of leather wide-leg trousers (very on-trend right now, and works great for most body shapes), or even a blazer.

For an all-out commitment to your colour selection, or perfect for abstract personality types, is to wear a full outfit in your colours. Whether it's a suit, or even a maxi dress, with a mesh top underneath to keep yourself warm in the cooler weather, with a handbag and jacket.

If colours feel a little daunting to add to your outfits, I'd love to help.

Top trends for Autumn

Outfits for this time of year include great layering and light, yet warm options.

Some of the top trends coming into the season include "punk prep" - think leather, pleated midi skirts, and tailored blazers. Maxi dresses and full-length hem lines are also back in fashion, and great with a pair of over heeled boots.

One great trend coming into fashion for the season are tailored waistcoats. These are great for the androgenous look for the office, or with a pair of wide-leg jeans over a more casual long-sleeved top for a more casual look.

Statement leather is also a strong option for the 2022 season, and you can't go wrong with a leather jacket at any time of year. You could also try any of the leather trousers coming onto the shelves, or for a more approachable statement leather piece, think of a leather bag in the colour of your season.

Top 3 Shoes & Outfit Inspiration for Autumn

Now we’ve talked all about the colours and outfits on offer for Autumn 2022, we can jump to the shoes! Shoes can oftentimes be the most difficult part of the outfit to pair together. There are some unique and fun ways to play with the shoes and your outfit for this time of year.

Combat Boots: Best with cropped loose-fitted jeans, and shorter skirts

Combat boots continue to stay on trend, year on year, and they're a great piece to bring into your Autumnal wardrobe. As they come up to your ankle bone, they do need a little consideration when being styled.

One casual option can be matching them with looser-fitted jeans that are cropped or rolled up to show off up to about an inch above the top of the boot. Check out my blog for 7 ways to style your cropped jeans, here.

You can also wear them with a midi or mini skirt with tights, and as the days get cooler, even with a pair of thick socks peeking out of the top of the boot too.

Knee-high boots: Match with dresses, skinny jeans, and maxi skirts

There's something so elegant about a pair of knee-high leather or suede boots with a small platform heel!

While you can go quite nineties with the styles on offer, it's best to pick leather or suede if you prefer a more professional look.

Matching your boots with a maxi skirt will keep you warm without having to fight with tights while wearing a dress with a slit can mean you can show off your boots without getting too cold.

Another way to wear and show off your boots is by wearing them over your skinny jeans, or with a mini skirt, depending on the event.

There are some great options available for those of us with larger calves, and do opt for a boot with a zip so you can more easily put your boots on.

Trainers: Casual chic looks with flares and wide-legged trousers

Workwear no longer has to include stilettos (as I shared in this blog) and this means you actually can wear trainers to work! There are some great options nowadays for us to pick up a pair of comfy yet professional trainers that work for all occasions.

Match your trainers with a pair of trending flares, or if you want to mix and match professional with sport-luxe, why not try with your trouser suit?  I would recommend looking for a pair of high quality trainers in a neutral tone, or go quirky with one of the colourful suede options now available to add a touch of personality at your feet.

Seasons change, and maximising your outfits and wardrobe items you already have is so important. If you’re finding it difficult to discover the seasonal outfits that work for you and bring you confidence, I can help with my Style Masterclass, or Personal Shopping experiences.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: TOP SHOES TO WEAR AT THE OFFICE (that aren't high heels)

As a stylist, I have seen more and more people ask me about the appropriate footwear for their outfits, in particular, what footwear can work for the office, other than the go-to of stilettos. Gone are the days when offices expect stilettos or nothing, but this may feel alien to you! So, here’s my guide to help you discover the top shoes to wear to the office, that are professional, yet aren’t painful.

Let’s admit it, wearing high heels to and from the office, as well as in the office all day, aren’t the most comfortable option to have all day! While they are beautiful, are there other options that are appropriate for the office, while keeping our feet comfortable?

I actually have a close connection that works in Clarks, and I have had the privilege of getting to know more about how our feet and posture works. While you may think that completely flat shoes are the best option, they can actually also cause back and knee pain, as well as discomfort in our feet. So having some sort of insert to give our instep support, or a small heel, are the best options for our posture, particularly if we’re running around all day.

Wedges & platforms

Wedges and platforms are the most comfortable options for our feet, if we still want that added height, but without the discomfort of stilettos.

Wedges are a great option for the workplace as they can come in a huge range of professional-looking varieties.

They can sometimes come in a more "beach" appropriate style with their woven heels, so make sure to look for styles that feel more office ready. Consider suede or leather, rather than espadrille styles.

For a platform, you can find some beautiful work-appropriate platforms from designer sneakers by Stella McCartney, to a pair of navy lace-ups.

Pumps with a kitten or block heel

If you just love the shape of your classic pointed-toe stilettos, but want to have a smaller heel, look for pumps with a kitten heel.

While this pointed heel is the least comfortable of my selections, you will still get a little elevation, and the pointed toe look, without going over the 2-inches!

A classic nude or black pointed pump can be perfectly paired with your wide-leg work trousers or a pencil skirt for a full-on classic office look.

If the kitten heel is not quite right for your comfort levels, you can find many pumps with the pointed toe that offer a block heel, for a touch of comfort, with classic styling.

Loafers with a small heel

Loafers have long been a business professional shoe, but mostly with a masculine wearer in mind. However, designers are now offering this beautiful style to the smaller, feminine foot!

With the added comfort of being slip-on, they can work beautifully for a professional that is on the go. You can slip a pair of small-heeled loafers with your cropped trousers and a blouse for a very classical look.

For a more modern touch, try a pair of backless loafers with a chunky heel, and a pair of leather trousers, to make the trousers look more business-appropriate.

Depending on your office, or your business personality, you could even try a pair of metallic or patterned loafers for a touch of creativity and drama for your look.

Platform Sneakers

Depending on the office you work in, or if you run your own business, you may want to consider the most comfortable of them all – sneakers!

Platform sneakers are all the rage, and offer a bit of height, while catering for the comfort of your feet. I love the new styles and designs that have come around over the last few years for those of us who want to look professional, yet stay comfortable when it comes to platform trainers. Even the likes of Stella McCartney has launched her iconic metallic platform sneakers that are exquisite, and definitely steer clear of the gym shoe!

If metallic with embellishment is a little too out there, you can find simple white or black platform trainers to pair with your wide leg work trousers, or smart jeans and a blazer. Grab an iced coffee, and your over the shoulder bag with your laptop and you’ll look like you just came off the catwalk.

So, do you think you’ll be walking away with a pair of comfortable office shoes this year? If you’re not sure where to start, I offer a personal shopping experience, so you have me by your side advising and recommending options to you for your needs.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: THREE COMMON STYLING MISTAKES (and how to avoid them)

What are the top three styling mistakes that we need to avoid to help us feel more confident? In this article, I share the three common styling mistakes I see, and how to avoid them to feel your best.

When you want to feel your best in the clothes and outfits you put together, there are some fashion faux pas that I recommend steering clear of! So, what are the three biggest styling mistakes that we should keep out of our outfits?

Wearing mainly black – particularly if you think it makes you look slimmer

We have been told in the past, that black is “slimming”. Well, what if I told you this was actually a common styling mistake? Now, there's nothing wrong with wearing black per se, the problem is doing it with the wrong purpose: hiding and looking slimmer, as opposed to enhancing your look. Moreover, black is a very harsh colour that suits very few people, so while we CAN wear it, it is also important to understand HOW to.

If you love wearing black, or it is a colour that works with your skintone, here are some top tips to making it feel more fashion-forward.

  • Add pops of colour with your accessories – such as jewellery, shoes, hair accessories, or even your layering.

  • Wear Black in a print, mixed with your best colours.

  • Keep black on your bottom half, and wear one of your colours on the top half.

Hiding under baggy clothes

Wearing clothes that hide the figure actually don’t help to enhance your shape – they can do the opposite! While baggy clothes can be “in fashion” it only tends to work on certain shapes, and this has to be done with intent. However, many of my clients feel they want to wear baggier clothes to hide their features, rather than accentuate their shape in the best way.

Baggy clothes can also work against you and make you “invisible”. As a personal stylist, I want to help people feel like they can shine in a room, and show off their personality in the best way. A few options to help you overcome this baggy look and show off your best features are can be:

  • Understanding your body shape. When you know your body shape, you can invest in pieces and create outfits that build your confidence.

  • Know where to go baggy, and where to add definition. While for some, a baggier bottom half can be a great option – perhaps with wide legged trousers, or with flares for pear shapes – this can be the completely wrong option for others. For example, apple shapes, having a fitted bottom half while having a baggier blouse or top is much better for them.

  • Loose fitting layers are better than baggy clothing. Now, this is a mind-shift! Loose fitting overshirts, or perhaps looser fabrics can be a first dip into changing how you see your baggy clothing. Don’t hide under them, rather have them as your additional layer over the top of flattering fitted items.

Imitating other people’s style

Well, this is maybe the biggest mistake of all. First, everyone is different, both physically and personally; and your style should be a reflection and an extension of who you are, not an imitation of someone else. Besides, what suits someone else won't necessarily suit you.

While I ask my clients to share their style influencers in our personal styling session, we only take inspiration from them, rather than replicating their styles. You will want to show off your own personality through your fashion, and with this, you can curate your very own style. It's so important to feel yourself when it comes to walking out of the door in the outfits you create, so embrace your true personality!

What can you do to start discovering your personal style?

  • Find the colours and shapes you love, and add them to your wardrobe. If you have a “uniform” you can add your personal touches with your accessories.

  • Play with fashion, don’t let it stop you. Fashion should be something that works with you, not against you. Take time to discover the stores, styles, and outfits that you love to wear.

  • Trends come and go, but your personal style will remain. So rather than going for the latest fashion trends in the stores, consider which styles you love to wear, and keep with them!

If any of these three styling mistakes feel like they resonate with you, I’d love to help you change how you feel about fashion. I can help you discover your best colours (and how to "fix" black, should you want to keep on wearing it!), the most suitable clothing lines for your body shape, scale and proportions. As well as recommended hairstyles and accessories for your face shape, and how to develop your unique personal style. This is all part of my Style Masterclass, available in London, Kent or online, to suit you!

I'm looking forward to helping you shine through your style...Because you are one of a kind ✨

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS - HOW TO PACK FOR THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Summertime is here, and for many of us, the first opportunity for us to get out and enjoy the holidays away from our own home. With this, comes the need to pack!

I have a confession – I went on holiday in spring to see family in Italy – and I didn’t do some of the tips below. It meant that I had to rush out in unexpected high temperatures, to get a whole week’s worth of weather-appropriate outfits. I wanted to make sure you don’t have this problem, and also give some advice on how to pack for your summer holidays so you’re confident every day.

Check the weather forecast

The first tip, and one I will make sure to never forget, is to check the weather forecast! While it isn’t a 100% accuracy, it will help you to see if that rain jacket may just be needed in the Caribbean holiday where you expected no rain. When you know the general weather of the week/s to come, you can then know which wardrobe essentials you need with you, and you can pack just a few “just in case” items.

This also helps with planning outfits for your holiday. If you know the weather requirements, you can plan out the outfits to put together, as well as how much space you may need. If you are expecting colder days you will potentially need to have a bigger bag, due to the thicker jumpers and extra layers.

Know the activities you’ll be enjoying while on holiday

Now we know the weather (and you won’t be rushing around with your family trying desperately to find appropriate clothes!) you can think about the activities. Your outfits will be dramatically different if you are on an active holiday versus a beach break. This will help you know what to pack in terms of footwear, underwear, and full outfits.

If you are planning to lounge by the swimming pool, go on date nights with your partner, and get drinks at the bar, then you will want to pack those essentials. A few bathing suits, and swimwear cover ups are great for by the beach. You may then want to have one or two pieces of jewellery (be mindful though not to take the family jewels!), and your date-night dresses & a pair of heels for the evenings. With beach holidays, you may go on a few excursions, so don’t forget the comfy wide leg linen trousers and a camisole top to go over your bikini or swimsuit for venturing out.

If adventuring around the city is top of your list, then flat comfy shoes, comfortable outfits, and a bag for your essentials will be the things you’ll want to pack. I know when I am heading on a city-break, my bag is filled with flowy midi and maxi dresses, with a pair of comfortable sandals or trainers (or both!). As it is a city break, I do also usually want to head out in the evening, but this will mean needing a few extra layers to keep me warm on the cooler nights. I usually pack one blazer, as well as a few cardigans to throw over my shoulders.

For hiking, skiing and other sports – your athletic wear should be top of the list. Then you’ll need all the essentials to keep you warm/cool, and comfortable!

Plan the outfits before packing them

Too many times do we pack things we love into our suitcases, then unpack them and have nothing to match them with! Take a little time while you are packing your bags to create the outfits and make sure you’ll wear them before packing them. If you have time, you could try them on before packing them into your suitcase for extra knowledge on how to style them. You can then see how many outfits you can make with each garment.

While tops may need to be changed daily (or more depending on your activities), your trousers, shorts and skirts could be worn a few times. So matching them with your tops, your swimwear, and your extra layers before you pack them will help when unpacking and knowing what to wear.

With this understanding of the outfits you’ve packed, it can help you when you are getting and ready to go in the morning, so you’re not fretting about mismatching garments, or not feeling comfortable.

The most important thing to remember when you are packing your outfits is that you feel confident and comfortable! You’re on holiday, so you don’t want to be second guessing the outfits you have in your wardrobe.

Remember the accessories!

While I’m not saying you need to pack your jewellery collection (far from it!), there are some essential accessories to pack for your holiday, depending on where you’re going. Sunglasses, waterproof watches, comfy walking shoes, and flip flops are just a few of the must-haves depending on where you are going. You may also want to pack hair ties, scarves, and bags for the day and the night.

If you are planning a trip and need to get a few essentials, it’s often the accessories that are missing. Think about all the things you’ll be getting up to, and the other tips above, to help you pack the things you’ll need.

Packing for your holiday should be something that means with a little extra time spent on planning, you’ll have items and outfits you’ll feel fabulous in when you arrive. I hope these have helped inspire you for your holiday, if you are having one. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your wardrobe and not sure what to pack, or feel like your style has lost it’s spark, please get in touch – I’d love to help.

PERSONAL SHOPPER TIPS: SPRING OUTFIT INSPIRATION 2022

If you’re looking for inspiration for your spring outfits for 2022 here are some great ideas to not only try the latest trends, but adding springtime colours, styles, and accessories to your wardrobe.

Spring is such a beautiful time for inspiration for our wardrobes – out go the grey and dark days, and in come the beautiful colours of pinks, purples, greens and yellows.

If you are looking for what to wear this spring and how to add a touch of colour, then here are my personal styling tips for your spring wardrobe!

Adding colour with your shoes

One of the fun, effective, and most approachable ways to add colour to an outfit, in my opinion, is through the shoes! Why?

Because you can choose to show just a flash of the shoe when you are wearing flares or longer jeans, or show off the full shoe when you wear skirts, cropped jeans, or dresses – which are a great outfit choice for the warmer days. With these shorter hemlines, you can truly bring out your colour personality, but without feeling like you have overdone it with the outfit.

From finding a pair of beautiful heels in a spring-perfect green or pink, to wearing a pair of sneakers in a bright orange or pattern you love, the world is your oyster when it comes to colourful shoes available.

To truly show off your beautiful shoes, you may want to try out cropped trousers or jeans!

What I love about cropped jeans is that they not only allow you to show off your favourite shoes, they are also an easy to wear item that still feels fashion-forward. If you prefer to wear trousers or want to try out the cropped look at work, you can find several styles of cropped trousers in a variety of colours.

Why not go all out and bring in the springtime with a pair of cropped culottes in green (Spring 2022's top colour choice!) or even a pattern (best if your body shape is wider at the shoulders to bring definition to your leaner legs).

Adding a colourful spring bag to your outfit

A colourful bag can be a great way to transform a more neutral look, as it isn’t taking up your full body, but brings just a spark of colour to the look.

When looking for a colourful bag, you'll want to make sure it is practical as well as beautiful. Consider what you will be using it for, which items you need to fit in the bag, and where you want to wear it (will it be an "every day", "work", "special occasions"?) this will help you find the perfect bag for you.

A few spring bags to add to your wardrobe are this gorgeous pink and orange small shoulder bag for just carrying your essentials; this Kurt Geiger rainbow shoulder bag; or this slightly larger crossover pink bag from Aldo.

Colourful clothes for spring

We're now onto the big addition to your colour journey - the clothing!

When you want to bring those springtime feelings to your wardrobe using colour, you can truly transform your mood with the colours you bring to your outfit.

If a full suit is perhaps a little too much, why not try a skirt? While I love dresses, and if you feel the same way, I'd recommend adding a spring dress to your wardrobe at this time of year, skirts are often overlooked!

Spring/Summer 2022 runways saw the return of the mini skirt, and if you are ready to try out a trend that feels young, and fresh, then I'd highly recommend getting a mini skirt for this spring. Whether it's an asymmetrical orange skirt or a quirky colourful patterned a-lined skirt, now is a great season to try them out. They will help you embrace & get used to the shorter hemline as you can wear tights if you would feel more comfortable.

If miniskirts just aren't your "thing" then a midi skirt matched with a tee or a blouse is also a fantastic option to add to your spring wardrobe. Try a multi-functional option in a colour block or even a pleated easy-to-wear option to throw on and upgrade your jeans and a tee style this spring.

Depending on your style, you can pair it with a pair of heels, platform trainers, or even combat boots - and you'll feel ready to take on the sunshine.

Admittedly, it can seem daunting to create a fully monochromatic outfit with a bright colour, so take gentle steps if you're someone who is new to the colourful game. Tone down a suit with a neutral blouse underneath, add a neutral tee to your colourful skirt, or wear a colourful jacket over a neutral outfit below.

Start by finding the colours of spring (greens, purples, pinks, oranges) and then make sure they are in your colour wheel, and then enjoy the springtime vibes!

If the changing of the seasons is a daunting time for you, and you’d love to welcome them with open arms, or an updated wardrobe that you can treat yourself to with confidence, I’d love to help. I provide a bespoke personal shopping experience to help you find the right pieces to add to your current wardrobe, or even a personal styling session so you can discover your personal style.

UNDERSTAND BODY SHAPES AND HOW TO DRESS FOR CONFIDENCE - PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS

Understanding our body shape is crucial if we want to feel more confident with what we wear. Apart from the shape and the proportions of our body though, it is absolutely important to consider how to dress all the individual parts of your body, rather than the entire body all at once. One of the first things I do with clients is to determine their features, so if they are angular or curvy, some people might have a mix and so be interjacent. So how do you know which one you are? I share my advice in this article.

Understanding our body shape is crucial if we want to feel more confident with what we wear. Apart from the shape and the proportions of our body though, it is absolutely important to consider how to dress all the individual parts of your body, rather than the entire body all at once. One of the first thing I do with clients is to determine their features, so if they are angular or curvy, and some people might have a mix and so be interjacent.

This helps to point in the right direction for choosing the best clothes, and fabrics to complement and suit our body to the best. Crispy fabrics and structured shapes, but also geometric (popelin shirts, cottons, structured blazers and jackets, geometric patterns, etc..) will suit best angular body features, while deconstructed shapes, soft fabrics and patterns (jerseys, viscose and silk, blouses, and “romantic” patterns like paisley, dots and flowers) will complement best curvilinear body features.

Research for body shapes and types

In order to determine if our features are angular, curvilinear or interjacent, a little exercise to do is to stand in front of a mirror in clothes that show your shape off. Look at your shoulders, are they straight across or do they slope down? Then, stand sideways, still looking into the mirror: do you have a straight back and flat bottom; or do you have a curved back and curvy bottom? Once you have determined which bits of you are straighter or curvier, you need to consider the actual construction of your clothes. Angular bodies, or sections, need straighter constructions; curvier bodies need softer and more shaped constructions. Interjacent people, will have to choose different clothing lines and structures depending on the different sections of their body.

Now, let’s dig into the body shapes: there are 6 different kinds of body shapes:

TRIANGLE (or so-called pear), INVERTED TRIANGLE, RECTANGLE, OVAL (or so-called apple), NEAT HOURGLASS and FULL HOURGLASS.

The difference stands mainly in the proportions between shoulder, hips and waist: when shoulder and hips are balanced (same width) they can either have a defined waist or a non-defined waist. In the first case, most luckily we deal with an hourglass (that can be neat or full..will explain more later on) while a non-define waist means we have either an oval or a rectangle body shape.

When the shoulders are wider than the hips, we are in front of an inverted triangle, as opposed to the triangle, where the hips are wider than the shoulders.

Now, let’s see, shape by shape, what this means:

1. Neat Hourglass

Is characterized by a defined bust a defined waist, a neat bottom, and neat hips and have a naturally balanced body and also a defined waist, and while they have a wide range of choice, in terms of clothing styles, they should always try to keep this balance and also, and show off their body by wearing clothes that define the waist, enhance the bust and highlight hips and bottom.

They should avoid wearing clothes that hide their body line. So anything with waist definition is a “go-to”, while buggy, boxy and shapeless clothes are not recommended. Neat Hourglasses can wear most fabrics and patterns, as long as they complement their features (angular, curvilinear, interjacent).

2. Full Hourglass

You don’t hear about this body type often, many just talk about the “hourglass” generically, but some women, still having balanced shoulders, hips and a defined waist, have a full bust, a rounded bottom, and rounded hips and for them, rules differ a bit from neat hourglasses, and it’s important to wear clothes that follow their body line and curves, instead of those that are straight and constricting. In this case, I recommend choosing fabrics carefully and avoiding heavy or stiff fabrics, but rather opt for fluid, soft fabrics and more deconstructed shapes, like waterfall jackets, cardigans (and knitwear in general), crossovers or wraps tops and dresses, in soft fabrics, and as for patterns it’s preferable to avoid geometric patterns, and instead opt for more fluid shapes (spots, florals, paisleys).

3. Oval

Usually has a rounded or sloping shoulder line, curved back, flattish bottom, fullness around the middle and indeed the critical area is the central torso. My best recommendations for oval body shapes are:

  • Draw the eye's attention to the area above your bust and below your hips. In order to do that play with accessorise (scarves, necklaces, earrings, hats) so keep any detail above the bust line and below the hip line.

  • Create the impression of a slimmer body, so create optical verticality through the use of shapes and clothing lines. Wearing coats/jackets or cardigans which are longer than the hip line is a great way to do this.

  • Clothing lines need to be straight, and fabrics soft to avoid any unnecessary volume or bulkiness.

  • Opt for deconstructed shapes, simple lines and plain colours on the bust.

  • Choose soft, fluid fabrics that hang well and don’t cling or hug the figure, and go for muted and subtle patterns.

4. Rectangle

Once again, hips and shoulders are balanced, but the waist is straight and undefined. Rectangle body types usually have flat hips and a flat bottom; however, some Rectangles can have a fuller bust, which gives a softer edge to their shape. Their main aim is to soften those edges even more and create the appearance of curves. This body type is characterised by a straight shoulder line, straight hips and bottom, very little waist definition, and a straight ribcage. I recommend using details on hips and bottom to create shape while avoiding details at the waist (such as noticeable waistbands or belts) and keeping the clothing line straight and structured. Most Rectangles can wear crisp fabrics, but those with a full bust need to opt for softer fabrics, and generally, geometric patterns work best for them.

5. Inverted Triangle

In this case, shoulders are wider than hips, and the waist is not defined. The body type is characterised by a straight and squared shoulder line, with flattish hips and bottom. I recommend highlighting the hips and bottom, focusing all attention below the waist. Shoulders are generally straight and squared, while hips and bottom are quite flat. Inverted triangles need to minimise details on their shoulders and keep this area as simple as possible while focusing the attention on their legs through shapes, colours and details. Clothing line needs to be straight, clean and sharp. Halter neck is their neckline! Jackets should be constructed and shaped with angular lines (like revered collars) and with no belts, while skirts should be straight and trousers used to add details to the legs and bottom (classic jeans are a perfect style!). I also recommend crisp, constructed fabrics and geometric patterns (like stripes and checks)

6. Triangle

As the name suggests, the bottom part is wider than the top, so the shoulders (and the top half in general) appear smaller than the hips and the bottom part of the body, and usually the waist is well defined while the shoulders may be sloped. As opposed to Inverted Triangles, Triangles need to focus the attention on the top part of their body, through shapes, volumes, details, patterns and colours, and create the optical illusion of wider shoulders, while enhancing their waist with belts and waist-cuts, and minimising details and volume at the bottom. Soft, fluid fabrics work best for the bottom half, while it is recommended to opt for more volume and structure on the top part to create a balance.

These are general guidelines, but everyone has their own, unique body and features, and there might be differences between two or more people fitting into the same body shape category. So while these tips can help to understand the different body types, it is always preferable to ask for the help of an expert who can give personalised and customised advice.

PERSONAL STYLING TIPS FOR DRESSING FOR SUCCESS WITH CONFIDENCE

When we go into the world of work, parenting, career moves, or want to feel more professional and confident, it can be a bit challenging.
I don't know about you, but when I feel my clothing shows my professionalism and personality, my confidence prepares me for a more successful day.
So, if you want to dress for a meeting, a new job, or simply to feel a little more powerful & confident in your outfits, here are my tips!

When we go into the world of work, parenting, career moves, or want to feel more professional and confident, it can be a bit challenging.

I don't know about you, but when I feel my clothing shows my professionalism and personality, my confidence prepares me for a more successful day.

So, if you want to dress for a meeting, a new job, or simply to feel a little more powerful & confident, here are my tips!

Invest in key pieces

Gone are the days when we are falling into the world of fast fashion, and only designer-priced pieces are sustainable and long-lasting. You don't need to wear something different every day! Have some key pieces that are high quality and easy to wear across different outfits.

With the likes of London-based, sustainable creators, you truly can find beautiful & high-quality pieces at a more appropriate budget. This isn't to say they are on the same level as Primark in terms of cost, but they can be more suited to our everyday wear investments.

When your wardrobe has key pieces that are of a mid-to-high quality, they will look more professional and feel better too. When they fit within your colour palette and style, you'll also want to wear them outside of the professional world, too!

Step into your shoes

I was once told that the first place people tend to look is at our shoes. I don't know why this is, but I have noticed that when someone is wearing a pair of beautiful shoes, they could be wearing a plain, monochrome outfit & still stand out!

The shoes we wear not only add a touch of personality to our outfit in a way we feel we may not be able to with the clothes, but they also can bring in that confidence by how we walk.

Whether it's a pair of stilettos in your colours matched with a navy or black suit, or a pair of chunky boots with a pair of jeans, they can elevate a look in a flash.

If your go-to look for work is more neutral, try adding a touch of colour and height with your shoes the next time you pull together your look.

Layers & accessories

Finally, the finishing touches are where we truly transform our looks from "day to day" to "professional".

I have said it before - accessories & layers make a difference! Think of the looks that you are drawn to - do they have layering and accessories, or do they stay without?

Most of the time, I see the looks my clients want to replicate and it has that stylish finish. Necklaces, earrings, rings, as well as blazers & jackets are these final parts to a professional look that will make it feel more polished.

If you are unsure on where to start with your accessories - start with the metal that works on your skin tone and invest in a layered necklace and a few rings that you can easily add to any outfit. Then you can build the collection up - belts, earrings & so on.

I hope these tips have helped you discover some new ways to dress for success with confidence. If you are looking for someone who can help you feel more confident with your fashion & style, I’d love to help.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: VALENTINE'S DAY OUTFIT IDEAS 2022

Are you looking for the perfect outfit inspiration to feel sexy, confident, and ready to take on Valentine’s Day (and any other type of romantic event?). Then I have compiled some tips and inspiration for your Valentine’s Day outfit ideas for 2022!

For many of my clients, styling their outfits for date nights, events with close friends, or just to feel a little more sexy, can be tricky to create. Valentine’s day can be a great time of the year to be with a partner and feel “yourself” or to get dressed up and spend time with your closest friends for a special night out.

So, if you are feeling unsure on what to wear to help yourself feel a little more sexy with confidence, here are some outfit ideas!

Inspire your colour palette

The month of love is often inspired by a certain colour palette, and that is reds, pinks, and blacks! These can be great colours to help inspire your look for a special event.

When you know the colours that make you feel your best, you can then include them into your outfits, and if reds, blacks, or pinks are within the colour wheel for you, then this is a great time to go all out.

You could have a full look inspired by the colours, for example a beautiful red dressshoes, and lip. If you feel an all-red look is a little difficult to commit to, you can add flourishes of the colour to your look through the accessories.

If you want to add pink rather than red, but still feel strong and powerful, you can look into investing in a deep pink suit, or tailored jumpsuit as the tailoring helps to create a stronger look.

However, if you love feeling more “cute” than strong, then baby pinks, softer pinks and sorbet pink are more approachable for this styling.

Black and red work really well together, so if you choose a Little Black Dress that you love and add the touch of sexy red for your date night, you will be sure to be feeling ready to take on the date!

Feel romantic

Romantic looks are great for a night out with a loved one, and for boosting your energy. Romantic styles are floaty dresses and skirts, all the way to frills, floral patterns, and vintage-style collars. They’re perfect if you’re like me and prefer to feel feminine on a date night.

A maxi or midi length can be an easy to wear style that adds a touch of elegance to your look without feeling restricted on your evening out (which translates to enjoying your dinner without restriction!).

If you prefer to wear something a little less formal, or are going to a brunch date instead of an evening, this look can work beautifully with jeans and a blouse with puff sleeves or added texture. You could also make this feel sexy while romantic with a monochromatic formal look that has the silhouette of a romantic-style of puff sleeves and skirt together.

You don't have to take this look all the way if you are more of an abstract style-lover, either, as you can dip your toe into the floaty silhouette, but add a touch of your style with block colours or patterns. You can also bring stronger elements to the look through your accessories with stilettos, strong jewellery pieces, and even your outer wear – think a leather jacket to bring a touch of toughness.

Show off your favourite features

The best and easiest way to boost your feeling sexy is to feature your favourite asset – whether it’s your shoulders with an off the shoulder dress, your legs with a short skirt or Little Black Dress, or your booty with a pair of trousers that showcase your asset in the best way.

When we put on garments that help us feel our best, that’s often when we feel our sexiest. We can then put together the rest of the outfit to match how we are feeling. So, I highly recommend discovering a few key pieces in your wardrobe that you feel your best in and save them for those days when you need added confidence. When you know the garments you feel your best in, you can then know where to invest in new items to create outfits you’ll love to wear (so they don’t have to be saved for special occasions!).

You can also encourage even more confidence with a few added extras:

  • Heels can transform your confidence – even if it’s only an inch or two, you will notice the change of how you walk, move, and that added height can boost confidence.

  • Add a touch of lipstick – that final swish of colour to your lips can work their magic to bringing a boost of confidence that sometimes is needed to feel your best!

  • Bring textures into your outfit that make you feel sexy. Whether you love soft comforting textures, or strong tailored looks, add these textures to your outfit so you can feel confident in a flash.

I believe we should all feel our best whether we are going for a date, out to an event, or spending the day at home, and fashion should help us feel this way when we get it right.

If you are feeling more stressed by your outfit choices, and would love to change that – please get in touch to discover how I can help.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: 7 WAYS TO STYLE CROPPED JEANS.

Jeans – they’re an essential part of most of our wardrobes, but when it comes to the styles we can wear, they are countless. Cropped jeans are one of the styles of jeans[A1] that is a more recent trend after years of skinny shapes dominating the fashion world, but can be tricky to style.

The first thing to think about when it comes to getting your cropped jeans is how can you style them with confidence? Here are my personal styling tips to help you discover new ways to play with your cropped jeans and perhaps add them to your wardrobe!

[A1]I’d say more that it’s a recent trend, after years of skinny shapes dominating the scene (or the market)

Jeans – they’re an essential part of most of our wardrobes, but when it comes to the styles we can wear, they are countless. Cropped jeans are one of the styles of jeans that is a more recent trend after years of skinny shapes dominating the fashion world, but can be tricky to style.

The first thing to think about when it comes to getting your cropped jeans is how can you style them with confidence? Here are my personal styling tips to help you discover new ways to play with your cropped jeans and perhaps add them to your wardrobe!

Cropped jeans with ankle boots

When you think of cropped jeans, you may not initially think that wearing ankle boots are a great option, but they can be super stylish together! Adding your little ankle boots, particularly when it’s a colder day, can be one way to continue to style your cropped jeans, while remaining a little warmer. I recommend wearing cropped jeans with higher boots that can hide under the jeans leg, but if you prefer to show a little space between your jeans and your boots, and your cropped jeans are the same length as your boots, then roll them up a little to show off that little bit of skin and create a break line.

A black pair of cropped jeans with black zip up boots, that have a little detail can be a great “rock chick” look to try out. However, if you’re more “romantic” in your styling, find a boot that has a thinner heel or have a quirky pattern to them to bring a little elegance or flair to your look.

Cropped jeans with a long overcoat or jacket

Layering is one of those styling additions that can transform a look, particularly for winter wear. Find a jacket or a shirt that comes to the length of your jeans and style them together to bring a complete look together. When you are looking at attending a smart/casual event this can be a great look to try as it can elevate the jeans you are wearing to a more smart-appropriate style, while remaining comfortable.

For the layering items, you can find blouses that are meant to remain open all the way or just at the top, and you can go for a fully fashion-forward look by half tucking your blouse at the front to bring an a-symmetry to the outfit. This can also be where you add your colours to the outfit, particularly if you have blue or black jeans that remain more neutral – add the colours and patterns to your outfit with a bright blouse or jacket and you’ve brought drama to your outfit!

Cropped jeans with a blazer

Now, if you know me, you know that a blazer is an essential piece I recommend to any client that wants to have an easy to add item to an outfit that brings a formal/business-appropriate addition to any item – and the same goes for your cropped jeans! Where your blazer may be more form fitting, this is where you can find a “mom” style cropped jean to your outfit or a looser fit to the bottom, that is then bringing the eye to your waist with your buttoned up or belted blazer.

For more ways to style your blazer, I have created a blog that shares a few ideas!

Cropped jeans with stilettos

With this outfit choice, you’re really going to town with the casual jeans paired with your formal or even sexy stilettos! I love bringing a heel to my jeans, so with a stiletto, go all out and make them work for you. You can have your looser fitting cropped jeans paired with your stilettos to create a sexy date-night look in a flash – with just a change of shoes! These are one of the best accessories that you can bring with you in a bag if you’re going to meetings and then seeing friends or your partner in the evening. But, with the right stilettos, you can also make these jeans work for business meetings. Find a nude or black pair of stilettos and pair them with your cropped jeans for a more work-appropriate look, that works if you are more comfortable with a smart/casual business attire.

Cropped jeans with platform trainers

Platform trainers are an excellent shoe to add to your collection – they remain comfortable, yet chic and stylish, while adding a little height. A classic white platform sneaker is a great option to add to your cropped jeans, as you can look slick and feel confident running between meetings – while remaining stylish and professional. If you want to add a little more personality, you can find platform sneakers in a range of styles, so go all out, try adding a little splash of colour to a neutral look with pink or bright blue platform trainers, while you could invest in a pair of designer platform trainers to really upgrade your look if your jeans are more budget friendly.

Cropped jeans with a shirt

You really can’t go wrong with a crisp shirt and any style of bottoms, and with your looser cropped jeans this can be another way to ensure a more smart/casual look that may work well for a more relaxed business person. A looser shirt can be a good option if you have a larger bust, as you’ll be able to tuck in your shirt into your cropped jeans to bring you in at the waist – adding a little definition with a belt can be another way to continue to bring your waist in.

Finding a cotton shirt that works for you is one investment piece I highly recommend bringing into your wardrobe, as it can go really well with many bottoms.

Cropped jeans with combat boots

Finally, one of the most rock-chick ready looks to wear with your cropped jeans is with combat boots which are another huge trend at the moment – best if you can invest in a leather or vegan leather option. With combat boots you could play with different options, from the classic punk-look of Doc Martens, to a more modern and romantic style with stiletto fronted combat boots! If you are conscious of your leg length, then matching your jeans colour to your boots is a good way to help your legs look elongated, or buy a pair of platform or heeled combat boots to add a touch of height.

While this can remain the most casual of looks, it can work well if your business style is more rocker or design-led, depending on the combat boots you try (for inspiration on how to style your combat boots in a variety of different ways, go here).

If you are planning on trying some cropped jeans, I hope some of these styling ideas have inspired you to bring new looks together! If you are unsure on how to style outfits, or want to have a professional helping hand when you go shopping, please get in touch.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: NEW YEAR, NEW WARDROBE?

As you enter a new year, is your resolution to be more comfortable in your skin, more confident within your styling choices, or to discover your personal style? Here are my top tips to help you do just that!

As we head into a new year, often we may feel refreshed and invigorated to stick to goals we have set ourselves! If one of your resolutions is to feel more stylish, confident, or even work on making new connections, get a new job, or build your business – one way to start can be understanding your wardrobe and style in a better way.

Where to start with a new personal style

The first step to discovering your new style, is to understand what you want to portray through your fashion. A few questions I always ask my styling clients are:

  • What are the first few words you’d like people to think of when they see you?

  • Who are your style icons or inspirations?

  • Do you feel a certain way in particular colours?

When you know these, it can help you start developing a sort of style mood board, which is what I create with my personal styling clients on Pinterest, to help you see a selection of options in one space that will help you with future purchases.

Remove items for your wardrobe that don’t fit within your style

When you know the type of style you want to portray through your clothes, that you feel confident in and showcases the personality you’d like to convey, you can then start to edit your current wardrobe.

Having a wardrobe detox helps with several things when it comes to developing your personal style:

  • It will save you time each day – no more wondering what will go with what!

  • Your wardrobe will work smoothly together as full outfits that you can mix and match easily.

  • You’ll no longer have any clothes that you don’t feel comfortable in – removing items that don’t fit you is one of the most important parts of this process, as well as the ones you don’t love or feel confident in when you put them on.

Once you have a wardrobe of items you already own, that work within your style you can move onto the next step – finding new items that work with your current ones!

How to find clothes that work with your personal style

Now you have a wardrobe that you can maximise outfits from, that makes you feel your best, and you have a curated mood board for your style inspiration, you can begin your shopping journey!

As a personal shopper myself, I am sure you wouldn’t be surprised to hear that I think making a shopping experience fun, enjoyable and functional is the most important part of your shopping experiences! You’ll want to make sure you do a few things before heading to the shops (whether online or in person).

  • Note which items you want to purchase to create outfits from your current pieces in your wardrobe.

  • What new items do you want to get to create new outfits?

  • What is your budget for this particular shop, or perhaps your quarterly shop? Knowing your finances that you are happy to spend each season for particular items will make sure you know what you can invest in and what you need to save for.

  • What colours do you want to add to your wardrobe, if any?

  • Which accessories would be a great addition to your collection to help develop fuller more diverse outfits? Whether it’s a belt, a bag, shoes, jewellery, or hair pieces, accessories can transform a look and finish an outfit!

When you have a plan, and an understanding of the style and messages you want to convey through your styling choices, your shopping experiences should be more economical and more useful for you. When we reactively buy because of new year’s sales, a sudden need for something quickly, and without thought, it can cause us to buy items that we ultimately don’t wear. Fast fashion, trends, and garments that don’t last cause us to spend our valuable money on pieces that don’t suit our style for the long term. Taking time to consider what you want your style to showcase, why you want to create that style for yourself – perhaps for your work wardrobe, your confidence, journeying into a new age bracket, or merely to feel great – can truly make a huge difference to how you feel.

Clothes and fashion should work for you – not against you. I hope you will walk into the new year with more confidence and joy each day, and if you’d love help to do this using fashion as one of the tools to manage this, please get in touch.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: WHAT TO WEAR TO A GALA DINNER WITH BLACK TIE DRESS CODE?

Are you heading to a special event that has a dress code such as black tie or formal wear and unsure on what to wear? In this article I share my top tips to help you style your outfit and feel confident all night.

This year I was so excited to have been nominated for the Best Business Women Awards in 2021, and had been asked to attend the black tie event where the announcements would be made.

But, even as a personal stylist, I was a little unsure on what to wear for this formal event. It had been a year of staying in, wearing smart tops and, admittedly, comfortable yoga pants on the bottom so I didn’t quite have any prepared items for such a formal event!

While I was excited to celebrate, I had to plan what to wear and make sure it was something I would wear again, or find in a sustainable way – bring on the wardrobe hunting in my Mother in Law’s vintage closet.

Once I had found the perfect piece, and accessories, I was ready to take on the “red carpet”, connect with fellow women in business, and even won 2 silver awards – to say I was delighted was an understatement.

While these sorts of events aren’t regular occurrences for me, and perhaps for you too, when you are invited to one you want to feel confident, comfortable and special. So, I wanted to share with you a few tips to help you feel your best at a gala dinner.

Practice your make up

Make-up, for me, is almost as important as the outfit. It can bring an added level of confidence and personality to a look, as well as being a great place to add colour should you be wearing all black. Often, at gala dinners or black tie events, there will be a photographer there, so you will want to make sure you feel your best if there are photos being shared publicly – without feeling you have to reapply your lipstick every five minutes!

When you are practicing your make up, try out how it looks in a flash mode from your camera, as well as in natural light, and lights indoors to see if it holds up, as well as how long it stays in place. If you haven’t already got a primer, and a finishing spray, I highly recommend investing in some – as they will make sure your make up stays all night long.

Another tip for making sure your make up is photo-ready is bringing a setting powder with you to blotch any shine if you have a more oily complexion (or if you are heading to a stage with lots of hot lights!).

Find the right accessories

Accessories can upgrade a look in a flash, and when you find the right pieces to add to your look, you will find it completes the outfit and you feel more pulled together.

Whether it’s a vintage 70’s bag, like I was lucky to find in my Mother-in-law’s wardrobe, a beautiful necklace, or statement earrings, find a few simple yet elegant accessories to bring to your outfit so you can create a more formal look.

The great thing is, when it comes to jewellery, you will hopefully continue to wear these items over and over again, as they can transition from formal to casual depending on the outfit you put together – so make sure you invest in pieces you’ll want to wear again, or rent pieces should it be an extravagant piece you may only wear once.

For jewellery for this event, I looked through my current collection of jewellery and decided that a pair of earrings I already had would work beautifully, as the dress I was wearing had a frilly neckline that did all of the work a necklace would have done!

Invest in little luxuries

The little things really can make a difference to our confidence, so invest in something that makes you feel special – whether it’s a facial the week before, perhaps getting your nails done the day before, having your hair cut by your favourite stylist, or getting a massage – treat yourself to something that will make you feel special for the event.

For me, I got my nails done in the same colour as my lipstick for the event, and I felt so fabulous. It was so lovely to have well looked after nails that were in a bright pink that added a dash of fun and personality to my look.

Add layers

Formal events often happen in the evening, so whether you’re attending in the Winter, Autumn, or even in the Spring/Summer, you will want to make sure you have an additional layer to keep you warm when you arrive and when you leave.

A jacket, blazer, or even a shawl can be a great option as they can be simple, neutral and easy to remove while indoors. I chose to have a cropped nude jacket that matched the almost nude lace areas in my 100% recycled dress – so it worked together with the outfit.

If you want to stay warm, and it’s going to be an event that is outdoors, but you don’t want to grab a big chunky coat, perhaps wear a pair of long boots to keep your feet warm, or a pair of tights – if you are wearing a full length dress, no-one will know!

Try on your full outfit in advance

This may seem silly, but leaving an outfit to the last minute will only cause you stress for the evening. Making sure you feel confident, comfortable and appropriate for the event is really important for these types of events. I recommend trying the full outfit together at least a week in advance, so if you need to change it up, need to get it tailored, or want to add a different accessory, you have enough time to do so.

Go all out – try on the full outfit with your make-up, shoes, accessories, and layering so you know how you feel and take a look in the mirror to see how great you really look!

After all – a gala dinner, is something to celebrate and feel special at. The outfit you wear isn’t as important as the people you connect with, and the evening together, but it can go a bit of a way to make sure you feel your best while you are there.

If you do have a black tie event coming up and you’re unsure on where to start with creating an outfit you’ll love, please do get in touch – I provide an online or face to face personal shopping service that can help you find the outfit that will work for you.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS – HOW TO LOOK AND FEEL “WOW” IN WINTER, WITH HANDMADE SEASONAL COLOUR HATS

If you're looking for new ways to stand out this Winter, then a stunning hand made avant garde hat from Italy may be the next essential for your wardrobe - perfectly created with seasonal colours available in each style!

I was delighted to have been taken part into a very special project of the women in business community WoW – Women on Women in collaboration with Italian hat designer, Vitrizia: the WoW hat Capsule, which was conceived as Urban artwear. The beauty of this collection was to showcase that fashion can be art, and specifically in this collection that the hat can be an artistic object to be showcased on the street as an artistic expression for the everyday woman.

The aim of these creations is to be WoW on every woman and Marianna, the CEO of WoW – Women  on Women, together with the designer, realised that working on the colour element was essential to achieve that result and in order to enhance each woman’s beauty.

Being part of the WoW community, and colour analysis expert, Marianna asked for my support in identifying the different seasonal colours for the capsule, to complement women belonging to each of the colour seasons. Each of the four handmade designs can be realised in colour combinations from the 4-seasons colour palettes (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) and has special features to truly help the wearer feel confident and empowered.

Woollen hats are worn during the colder months so this is fantastic time to enhance the beauty of each woman, from day to night, with the headpiece accessory. And getting it right with the right shape and colours is so important to feel unique and confident.

The Diva Headdress

This is a truly standout piece which can work beautifully with a similarly Avant Garde outfit – think oversized coats or more masculine cuts. The piece will definitely help you to stand out among the grey backgrounds of this season, so consider finding the style in your colours and truly go with it!

While it will keep you warm with its open balaclava style, you will also take the stage with its unique styling. Let the hand sewn jewels add a touch of femininity to your masculine outfit, and pop on a pair of heels with wide leg trousers to continue the masculine/feminine look.

The Diva hat in a winter colour combination

The Mimosa Cake Hat

A classic style with a unique edge, this almost beanie-like style gets a dramatic touch of artistic flair with the double topper. I love that this brings a truly unique addition to a classic look, so while it feels the most simplistic of the designs for this capsule collection, you know you will be showcasing your individuality & supporting hand-crafted creations.

I recommend wearing the Mimosa to complement a monochromatic look, as it already is reflected in the hat. You can either add the layered pop of colour to the remainder of your outfit, or let that part shine and complete your look with an outfit all in the colour of the main hat. Monochromatic looks are excellent for keeping a professionals and easy to put together look, and when you know your colours, these should be easily accessible in your wardrobe. Put on a classic-cut coat such as a trench coat or blazer to complete the winter-ready styling.

The Mimosa hat in a Spring colour combination

The Big Kiss

I love this piece so much I had to get it for myself – it’s incredibly unique and you can even add ostrich feathers to make this hat almost like a bejewelled head piece or fascinator. Inspired by early twentieth-century designs, this hat has a rosette to the side of the garment with hand-sewn crystals, you won’t need any jewellery with this to stand out!

The Big Kiss in a summer colour combination

With this hat, I like to wear it with a structured coat for formal meetings, or with a leather or denim jacket to relax the look. Then pop on my favourite cropped jumper, a pair of black or dark jeans and high heeled boots – mixing together the elegant styling of the hat with a more informal outfit.

The Ruler

A fun, quirky, and unique design, this hat brings together a scarf and a hat together in one! I absolutely love the additional textures in the neck piece that transform this hat, that truly is a piece of art for the modern woman to wear. It uses inspiration from the eighteenth century, framing the head and the neckline, you’ll truly feel like Queen Elizabeth I with a contemporary colour twist.

The Ruler in an Autumn colour combination

I love to play with the inspiration of this outfit and truly go full-romantic styling. Think long floaty dresses, that encompass the feeling of a royal queen. If that’s a little too feminine, then consider the fabrics that feel royal such as satins, velvets, and suede! It would work beautifully with a velvet suit, or perhaps a square-necked long sleeve jumper, long overcoat and midi skirt that continues to be a go-to piece for this season.

As an Italian personal stylist in London, I love supporting fellow Italian designers create pieces that help women stand out from the crowd, and continue to support independent, hand crafted creations that are sustainable. It was a real pleasure to be a part of this project, and you can get your own pieces from this collection by going here and if you want to learn all about the colours that work for you so you can confidently curate a wardrobe you love, please get in touch to book your colour consultation.

PERSONAL STYLING TIPS: 7 PERFECT PARTY OUTFIT IDEAS

Parties – let’s face it, dressing up can be a big headache if you are unsure on what to wear. Whether you already have a fabulous wardrobe or not, the dressing up side of parties, particularly during the festive season, can become tricky.

In this article, I wanted to share 7 of my favourite party outfit ideas that are headache-free and some that may already be in your wardrobe!

Try out a suit

Something I think will always be “on trend” is wearing a suit! If you have a colourful, well proportioned suit, you can transform it for each and every occasion as you see fit.

When it comes to dressing for a party with your suit, over and above the office-look, here are a few ways to play with it:

1.       Add some sparkle – whether it’s with a sequined cami top under your blazer, or with a sparkly pair of earrings, add a little sparkle to make your suit more festive.

2.       Add colour – if your suit is in a more formal, classic colour such as black, brown, or navy, adding some colour will make it more party-appropriate. If you can, I’d recommend finding a colourful blazer to go with your suit trousers, but you can also find colourful luxurious trousers in a velvet or satin, which can be a great switch-up.

3.       Add party heels! Finally, the quickest way to change up your suit for a party is adding a pair of beautiful heels. Think stilettos that peek out from your trousers for a perfect look, or for more comfortable option a pair of sequined block heeled boots.

If you want to try out a blazer that is particularly fun, festive, and party ready, as well as feeling totally personality filled, then now is a great time to get one. Perhaps invest in a colourful suit, or one in a fabric like velvet – go all out, it is the season for fun!

A classic Little Black Dress

A go-to on anyone’s essentials list for easy to throw on looks is the Little Black Dress. I shared some insights into how to style a little black dress for any body shape here, and if you want to have something simplistic and easy to put on that you’ll feel great in, then the LBD is a great option.

However, if you want to add a little fun and festivity to the look, you may want to play with your outer wear and your accessories.

Transforming your little black dress can be as simple as adding the right jewellery for your festive party look, to adding fabulously quirky disco boots, or even a cape! If you want to turn up feeling warm as well as festive and have that moment when you slide off your coat to show off your outfit, then a warm fluffy coat can be a good option.

Co-ord sets for Christmas

Co-ords, much like the suit, are very on-trend and will be a really easy way to make your outfit work for you in a flash. Think a skirt and top combination in the same colours or patterns, but that can be worn separately, too. The reason I love co-ord outfits is that they are so easy to put together in a rush. However, they can sometimes feel a little more “trendy” depending on where you get them, so perhaps less appropriate for a sustainable wardrobe. My top tip for finding a co-ord that would work for your Christmas parties but also for future wears, is to make sure it is in a colour that is within your palette and fits your personal style.

They can also feel a little casual, so make sure you look closely at the fabric options, if you want your look to work for a more formal occasion. For example, this recycled polyester deep purple crop top and midi skirt co-ord can be a good option for parties and separately for future events.

Festive Jumper – but styled up!

For a less formal event, or one with a little fun, you can go for a fun festive jumper that’s elevated and can be reused for future. The one thing that can happen when you are getting fun Christmas jumpers is you only wear them once – which isn’t incredibly sustainable. However, if you find a festive yet sophisticated jumper or cardigan, then you can still have that fun, without wasting money or harming the environment.

A few festive tops that I found are:

  • Pearl embellished jumper – a great option for fun, quirky, yet sophisticated looks.

  • Sequinned blouse – now, this is very sequined and glittery, but it can work really well for a festive event, as well as a party throughout the year as it isn’t “Christmas” themed.

  • Black and silver v-neck jumper – this is more casual in terms of the look, but paired under your favourite blazer and with a satin skirt, you can dress this up very easily.

  • Short sleeved navy glitter polo neck – and if you’re indoors so don’t need too many layers, this short sleeved glitter polo neck in a lovely warm fabric, can work well.

Cocktail dress

This style of dress is an elevated version of the Little Black Dress. Think different colours, fun elements such as ruffles, and will fall above the knee. When you go looking for a cocktail look, you can be a little more formal and consider that this outfit may only be worn for parties or dates, due to the length it may not be suited to black tie or formal events.

The great thing about cocktail dresses is they can come in a huge variety of colours, fabrics, and designs so finding one that suits your personal style is the most important part of this process. You may already have a cocktail dress in your wardrobe, so throwing it on with some jewellery, a clutch bag, and your heels will be one of the simplest but most effective looks.

For an elegant and easy look that is just below the knee and in a demure style, try this lilac cocktail dress with faux wrap top and pleated skirt – it has a gentle shimmer so can be easier to approach than a more festive option.

If sparkle isn’t something you gravitate towards, then this black almost grunge styled dress with ribbon detail and autumnal flower design is right up your “rock chick” cocktail look.

Sequined Dresses

For a sparkly, festive, glitter-fest of an outfit then you really can’t go wrong with a sequined dress. Becoming even more popular this year, I have seen plenty of beautiful sequined dresses that will work for any occasion. The great thing about sequins is they will sparkle and light up your day – however, they can sometimes look a little cheap, so if you are going full sequin and need to buy a new dress to treat yourself to this fun style then invest in a good quality dress.

Whether it’s a silver sequined mini dress with voluminous sleeves & a pencil skirt,  a colourful rainbow-like sequined dress with a higher neck, or an almost 20’s inspired sequin fringe midi dress, you will find a great selection of options.

Styling a sequin dress can be a little more tricky, so let the dress do all the talking and let your accessories complement it. For example, dark tights and a black pair of heels if you are wearing a shorter dress (and to keep your legs warm) or a pair of simple strappy heels – and you are ready to rock the dance floor!

Try out a jumpsuit

If a dress just isn’t your style, or you want to be able to throw on a full outfit that is ready to party all night in then you can’t go wrong with a jumpsuit! We are lucky enough to have a whole host of options for jumpsuits at our fingertips, so if you are opposed to the classic dress style, this is your year to try out the jumpsuit!

A few jumpsuits I have found online that would be great for any party, are:

·       For the smart/casual party – Try out this fun wide-legged gold-polka-dot jumpsuit. It’s fun, sparkly, and comfortable too!

  • For the unique black-tie event – this incredible white (also available in yellow and black) cross-halter jumpsuit is beautiful. No need to add a necklace, as the neckline is doing all of the work. Add some bangles and rings and you’re ready to drink cocktails and eat canapes.

  • For the festive party – if you want to feel festive, but don’t want to wear a Christmas jumper, then I have found this velvet deep burgundy jumpsuit!

  • For the girl’s night out –for a fun, flirty option for any type of party with the girls or over brunch, this elegant one-shoulder cape-detailed jumpsuit in salmon is beautiful.

  • For the theatrical event – I can’t say how incredible this art-deco inspired bronze jumpsuit is (it is a big investment, however) and you will definitely make all the eyes in the room turn. It has long pleated sleeves that go all the way to the floor, so perfect for a theatrical event, particularly if your company is hosting a themed Christmas do this year – or just to feel fabulous.

I hope this 6 Christmas party outfit ideas have inspired you to get all dressed up! If you are looking for the perfect gift for under the tree for that loved one or friend that deserves confidence in all that they wear, I’d love to help – I am offering Christmas vouchers this year that can cover a particular service, or go towards a service so they can treat themselves to wardrobe happiness in 2022.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS - 5 WAYS TO LOOK GREAT WHILE STAYING WARM THIS WINTER

One big struggle for many of my clients is knitwear and layering: it's easy to dress up in summer, with a dress and a jacket to feel sexy, cool, and confident. But in winter, when it's cold and you need to wear layers, it gets a little difficult.

A blazer or leather jacket is not something easy to wear under a coat, while a cosy jumper could be much better, but it may feel a little too casual to wear in the evening or to the office.

We need to stay warm, but feel confident and professional, so I wanted to share the different kinds of knitwear that are on trend this winter, how to layer with confidence, and how to stay professional while keeping warm!

Add extra layers under your office wear

Thinner layers that can go under your garments are an essential at this time of year and they won’t make you feel bulky. When you look for thin layering items think of warm fabrics such as cashmerebamboo, or wool, that can keep you snuggly but without additional thickness to go under items.

One of my favourite ways to style a thin layer is with a cashmere rollneck top under a dress. This helps me continue to wear my colourful seasonal items throughout the colder months.

You can also do this with round neck or polo neck base layers under your shirts as a way to add colour, definition, and most-importantly, warmth!

Belt it up or tuck it in!

A belt can completely transform your look! When you are wearing lots of layers, you'll want to bring in your waist, so adding definition through using a belt is a great option here. One option is to add a belt over your midi-skirt and warm jumper combination; or a dress that you're wearing over your basic turtleneck, with a gorgeous belt at the waist.

If you prefer a cleaner line, you can tuck in your garments - if you're wearing separates. This works beautifully with your blouse and work trousers, or a midi skirt and a large jumper; or even with your high-waisted jeans.

Make the investment

Your knitwear and outer wear should last you several years, particularly if you take care of it, so investing in pieces that you love will mean you can continue to wear them.

If now is the time to get a few new key pieces, then investing in one that will work with your style throughout the years is important. If you live in the UK, then you will always have some handy jumpers or long-sleeved tops required throughout the year, so why not have pieces that you really love wearing?

I recommend having a large comfortable jumper, a classic cardigan, as well as a few thinner jumpers for during the day when you’re running around in the office or commuting, so you’re not overheating!

Consider the accessories

Something that always elevates a look is the accessories – we have already seen how a belt can transform your look, but when you elevate your winter wear with jewellery and colourful scarves you can go from feeling sofa-ready, to office ready in a flash.

Have on hand a few key pieces that can work with your layers. For example, layered necklaces go really well over the top of tight rollneck jumpers, you can add a few rings and a chunky bracelet, or pop on some tights with a gorgeous pattern to add a touch of flair when you put on your work dress or skirt.

Add colour & pattern!

It may be winter and feeling grey outside, but this doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to feel this way. One of the biggest ways to cheer ourselves up, and make our outfits feel put together and personality-filled is by adding colour or pattern to the look.

Something you can start with it a colourful accessory like a scarf, or with your shoes or bag – little sparks of colour are a good way to start. These pieces can also then be used throughout the seasons, too!

If you want to level up the look, you can try out the on-trend style of a monochromatic look in one colour or shades of the same colour with your whole look. This is something that can work really beautifully, and feel pulled together, but can be a big step if you’re one to steer clear of colour in the day to day. If a bright colour like pink or green is a little too much (or not in your colour season!) then start with nudes, browns, or autumnal colours like burnt orange.

I hope these top tips for feeling confident & warm this winter inspire you to try out some new fun ways to boost your winter wardrobe. If you’d like support in creating a wardrobe you love that boosts your confidence, I would love to help – I offer personal styling services as well as my personal shopping service that curates outfits & styles that you will love.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: BACK TO THE OFFICE - 3 COMFY SHOES AND HOW TO WEAR THEM

When we go back to the office, we often expect ourselves to put on those heels and begin to relive the aches of stilettos and work shoes, but what if I told you there were work appropriate shoes that won’t feel uncomfortable from the first minute? Well, there are shoes that work for the office and for your feet, so in this article I wanted to share 3 comfy shoes you can wear to the office, and how to style them.

Often my clients struggle to match shoes with their outfits. Now that the priority seems to be comfort, particularly after such a long time at home in slippers.

However, when we go back to the office, we often expect ourselves to put on those heels and begin to relive the aches of stilettos and work shoes, but what if I told you there were work appropriate shoes that won’t feel uncomfortable from the first minute? Well, there are shoes that work for the office and for your feet, so in this article I wanted to share 3 comfy shoes you can wear to the office, and how to style them.

Loafers for women, and how to style them

Loafers were often a men’s-only shoe, but now that shoemakers have moved into a more androgynous flow for their offerings, loafers have become incredibly popular for women. They’re not only comfortable, but can be matched with a multitude of outfits, here are a few of my favourite ways to style loafers, specifically for the workplace.

Loafers with tapered trousers

When you’re wearing a beautiful pair of loafers, why not show them off with a pair of tapered trousers that are cut above the ankle? You can match a stunning pair of red trousers with a gold pair of slip on loafers as a funky stand-out look, or keep your look monotone with black trousers and black leather loafers that have a little detail in them to keep some style in the outfit.

Loafers with a midi skirt

If you are more into skirts at work over trousers, then as with the tapered trousers, a midi skirt is a great option to match with your loafers, throw on a turtleneck and a belt and you’re ready to take on the office with style! You can go completely flat, or you can find a pair with a small heel, depending on your preference. A quirky pair with a fabulous pattern, like these bumble bee pattered Gucci loafers are a fabulous and fun addition to your wardrobe, and work well if you want to showcase personality, but can’t do so in your full outfit – match them with a black midi skirt, simple shirt and blazer and you are ready to take on the office!

Pumps for work and how to style them

Now, bear with me here, ballet pumps have come a long way from our classic school-wearing pump days! You can get some incredible elegant women’s pumps that are both comfortable and work-wear ready.

There are an incredible array of options when it comes to pumps, you can have flat options that are perfect for sheer comfort. They usually have a very minimal heel as this can help those with flatter feet who need a little uplift for comfort, or just prefer shoes that have a heel and feel better to wear them for work.

Pumps with a dress for work

The beauty of ballet pumps is because they are often very decorative, which means they can be paired with a minimal outfit such as a classic office dress. Look for a pair with a scalloped pattern to bring a little edge to your look without having to go all out with a pattern!

You can also wear a pair of ballet pumps that have a stiletto-like toe, without the heel, and I love finding these pumps without the rounded toe, as they really do match the expectation of a stiletto, without causing aches in the heels.

Pumps with flared trousers

I love seeing trousers that hit just a few millimetres above the floor (we all know winter can mean puddles so be careful not to go for trousers that are too long!) and pumps can be a great option to match with flares that work really well for those of us with larger his to balance us out. Throw on a colourful pair of pumps, match them with a dark pair of work wear flares, and then match with a flowy blouse on top.

Boots and how to wear them for work

As I am writing this in the colder Autumn month of October, boots are on my mind! While we can play with fun boots for casual wear, such as combat boots, some of us have steered clear from wearing boots to the office, but they can work beautifully, and they can be very comfortable! Now, I may not be suggesting combat boots for the office (unless you have a more casual workplace that is), but there are some great options that I wanted to share with you.

High boots with tights and a skirt

Skirts can work really well at the office, when they are paired well with the right accessories and footwear. When at the office, skirts may not be as favourable, but when Autumn comes along, you can pop on some thicker tights to feel more appropriate for the office. Pair with some black high boots that have a small heel, in black leather and you will feel on top of the world. I highly recommend investing in a pair of boots like this, as they will last year on year, and will look much more appropriate for work when they are of a higher quality. I would also recommend a pair that fall just below the knee, as over the knee can feel a little less appropriate for work. Try a mini skirt with a blouse; or an a-line skirt that cuts just below the knee so you have no gap between the boot and the fabric.

Ankle boots with an a-line dress or skirt

Another option when it comes to boots at the office is the classic ankle boot! One way to wear them is with an a-line skirt or dress as they will graze below the knee with enough space for the boots to not cut you off. Ankle boots can be a little trickier to pair with garments at the office, so styling with a skirt is often the best option in my experience. You could also try a pair of cowboy-esque leather boots with a pair of flared trousers as they are more comfortable than classic heels, but have a slight heel so you feel uplifted yet cool with the western style.

I hope these options for more comfortable work-appropriate shoes have inspired you for your next visit to the office. HOW TO DRESS LIKE AN ITALIAN | PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS

I hear very often from friends and people I meet, in the UK that is, that I have a very quintessential Italian style! Now, my friends in Italy believe I am influenced by both Italy and England, but I think my style really is rooted within my experiences, as with many people this is the same.

However, Italian style does have a particular edge to it, so if you’d like to learn how to add a little Italian style to your everyday or special occasion wear, then this article is for you!

Neutral Tones

In my experience, Italians wear mostly neutrals (black, white, beige) either together or separately, then add a maximum of one active colour (red, green, pink). This flash of colour is usually with an accessory, such as a handbag, their shoes, or scarves so they aren’t particularly in your face with colour, but they bring a touch of edginess while remaining clean and neutral across the rest of the outfit.

High Quality Basics

Italians know how to put together a look that looks effortless, and once they know the outfits they love, they stick to them. The best way to do this is with high quality garments, that are your basics – from a camisole top to your favourite jeans, investing in these pieces will ensure they look great, and feel great when you put them on. This is also incredibly beneficial if you are looking for a more sustainable wardrobe and consideration of the environment. Items that will last across seasons and trends are essential in the Italian-woman’s wardrobe.

Have one statement piece

Jewellery can be a game-changer when it comes to your outfits, and Italian women know this. Bringing a statement piece to their more neutral outfit works in place of a colourful accessory. If you want to really make an impact, bring in a beautiful large ring to your look, or a chunky necklace, and keep everything else clean.

Know your shape – and rock it!

Curves in all the right places – this is something Italian women know how to flaunt. While it seems French women are more about the potentially androgenous looks, Italian women flaunt their favourite areas. Whether you love your waist and will bring all eyes to this area, or your legs are your favourite part so your go-to look is a midi or mini length skirt, understanding your body will bring you the confidence to wear these garments, and rock them – no matter whether you want to dress in a more Italian way, or flaunt your own style!

Wearing heels is a must

Somehow, most Italian women are running around in high heels. Now while this may make your toes ache from the thought of it, bringing a pair of heels to your event can make this work for those of us who perhaps aren’t quite that ready to run up and down the underground in 6 inch heels. Stilettos seem to be the go-to for Italian women, but starting with a block heel in a bright colour or pattern can be a great step in the right direction.

No matter the inspiration for your style or wardrobe, it should reflect who you are and what you love. If that’s a dash of Italian, a pinch of British, and a touch of feminine classics; or a quirky, business-formal, colourful style – it will be the style you feel most confident in.
